The Tara National Park covers an area of 183 km2 and is mostly under protection as a national good of great importance, its highest peak is Kozji rid with 1591 m, and belongs to a group of Podrinje mountains. According to the legend, Tara was named after the Slav god Tar, who, due to the natural beauty, chose to live his divine life on it. Tara is abundant with lakes, brooks of crystal clearness and small rivers, where two famous lakes stand out: Perućac and Zaovine. This is an ecologically preserved environment, very suitable for winter sports, but also rich in flora and fauna. The following is represented on Tara: fir, spruce, pine, aspen, maple, birch, and as many as 53 species of mammals and 153 species of birds are registered here. The most interesting and certainly the most famous botanical representative of the wealth of Tara is the renowned Serbian spruce, discovered by the famous biologist Pančić in 1875, on the steep slopes of the White Rzav gorge, which can be seen only here.
In the south-eastern part of the mountain Tara, 16 km from Bajina Bašta, there are Kaluđerske bare, a famous tourist centre on whose limestone base grows forest of black and white pine, fir and spruce. There is also a ski slope, at an altitude of 1000 m, as well as sledding trails, and stud farm with the possibility of horse renting for recreational riding. The Hajdučka fountain is located 3 km from the Kaluđerske bare. This is a beautifully landscaped resort, a favourite place for rest and recreation of the inhabitants of Bajina Bašta.
You can also visit Zaovine (located in the southern part of Tara and famous for the fact that the fossils of the plant world have been discovered here), Sokolina (a plateau with beautiful meadows surrounded by forests of fir, spruce, beech, which represents a true air spa), Mitrovac (at 1080 m above sea level and characterized by favourable climatic conditions with a large number of sunny days), Predov krst (in the north-western part of Tara and the most protected area of Serbia with three nature reserves: Zvezda Mountain, Brusnica and Karaula štula, which make up the habitat for tertiary plant and animal species).
The settlement of Šljivovica is 20 km away from Bajina Bašta, but it is worth visiting because there is a natural reserve-habitat of Serbian spruce here, as well as a reserve of mixed forests of fir, spruce and beech. This area is also attracted by the richness of various landscapes, plant species, medicinal herbs, springs and watercourses, caves ...
For the guests of the hotel, we organize various excursions and visits to the natural beauties of the National Park Tara, boat ride on the Drina River or cruise by Lake Perućac.
What is definitely not to be forgotten and skipped is the biggest event on the water in Serbia - the Drina Regatta, which, for during several in July brings together about 10,000 visitors from the country and abroad.
